Trip Highlights

Lower Zambezi National Park

Our journey begins with a drive from Lusaka to the stunning Lower Zambezi National Park. Nestled along the Zambezi River, the park’s vast floodplains, woodlands, and towering escarpments offer a dramatic backdrop for wildlife encounters. We’ll embark on a canoe safari (or boatcruise if preferred) along the river, where we may spot elephants, hippos, and crocodiles. Game drives will take us into the heart of the park, revealing lions, leopards, and with a bit of luck even painted dogs (wild dogs). As night falls, we’ll settle into either a campsite or lodge, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African wilderness.

South Luangwa National Park

We’ll head to South Luangwa National Park, considered one of Africa’s top wildlife destinations, especially for big cats like leopards and lions. The Luangwa River runs through this diverse landscape, drawing in vast numbers of animals, including giraffes, elephants, and hippos. South Luangwa is the birthplace of walking safaris, and we’ll have the opportunity to track wildlife on foot, offering an immersive and thrilling experience. Game drives will take us deeper into the park’s varied habitats, from open savannahs to mopane forests, where each corner reveals new and exciting wildlife sightings. Evenings will be spent enjoying the serenity of the bush and reflecting on the day’s adventures.

North Luangwa National Park

On the journey to North Luangwa, we’ll pass through traditional Zambian villages, giving us a chance to engage with local culture and rural life. North Luangwa National Park, one of Zambia’s most remote and pristine areas, offers a completely different atmosphere from the more famous parks. Known for its rugged terrain and isolation, the park is home to reintroduced black rhinos, lions, buffalo, and elephants. We’ll explore the area primarily on walking safaris, which will take us through miombo woodlands and along the river, offering raw and unfiltered wildlife experiences. The sense of solitude and untouched beauty makes North Luangwa an unparalleled destination for those seeking true wilderness.

Back to South Luangwa’s Remote Areas

Returning to South Luangwa, we will venture into its more remote, lesser-visited regions, offering new landscapes and wildlife viewing opportunities. This part of the park is quieter, with fewer visitors, allowing us to experience the wilderness in a more intimate way. Here, we’ll have a better chance of spotting elusive species such as wild dogs, or witnessing large herds of buffalo moving across the plains. Night drives will reveal a different side of the park, with nocturnal creatures like hyenas, civets, and genets emerging under the cover of darkness. This return will allow us to explore hidden gems of South Luangwa, adding depth to our safari adventure.

Flight back to Lusaka

After a final morning game drive, I will drop you at the airport that is located a short drive outside of the park. You’ll take a scenic flight back to Lusaka, soaring over Zambia’s spectacular landscapes one last time. This journey will offer a moment to reflect on the incredible wildlife encounters and cultural experiences we’ve had throughout the trip. Upon arrival in Lusaka, you’ll departure to home, carrying with you unforgettable memories of Zambia’s wilderness, the thrill of walking safaris, and the warmth of its people. The trip may be ending, but the stories and sights will stay with us long after we leave.

Why choose this trip?

This safari is a photographer’s dream, offering unparalleled opportunities to capture the raw beauty of Zambia’s wildlife and landscapes. In Lower Zambezi National Park, the dramatic riverine scenery and diverse wildlife, will create striking visuals that will enhance any portfolio. South Luangwa National Park’s renowned big cat sightings, combined with the chance to track wildlife on foot, provide dynamic and intimate photographic moments in a variety of habitats. North Luangwa’s remote and rugged terrain offers a rare, untouched backdrop for capturing reintroduced black rhinos and solitary wildlife in their natural state. The journey enriches your experience with unique chances to photograph elusive species and creatures, making this safari an exceptional opportunity to document the splendor and solitude of Zambia’s wilderness.

Climate & Weather

In September, Zambia experiences the tail end of the dry season, making it an excellent time for a safari. The weather is generally warm and sunny, with daytime temperatures ranging from 28°C to 35°C. Nights can be cooler, especially in the more elevated areas, with temperatures dropping to around to 18°C. Rainfall is minimal during this period, which means game viewing is optimal as animals congregate around water sources. The clear skies and pleasant temperatures create ideal conditions for outdoor activities and wildlife photography.
